During the lockdown, everyone is missing those office desks and the little additions done in the workspace to give it a refreshing look. One such addition is the plants that were either sitting our tables or placed around the space for creating a vibrant and lively environment. What happened to them over these months? Well, one office complex did an amazing job with them.
It’s been long since we have made an excuse for being late at work or had a quick chat with our colleagues over our sixth cup of coffee since morning. We haven’t even watered our favorite plants around the office and talked to them when human interaction drained us.
We are away from them and can only wish that they thrive without us. Who will greet us on our return? However, how is that possible if no one is there to water them or take care of them?
One Tumblr user wafflesrisa shared her story about how her plants and the ones in the entire office block received all the care that helped them survive.
Waffles wrote in her post, “When lockdown happened in the UK it happened very suddenly. At the law firm I work at, our office building emptied overnight when everyone was told to work from home. No time to clear our desks, no time to bring office plants home.”
She mentioned that people who left their little saplings or the employees who once took care of the big ones in the pots assumed that they must be dead by now. “Fast forward three and a half months – everyone assumes that their plants are dead.”
However, the good news came to them in their mails. All the plants in the whole building where her law firm was located thrived!
She revealed that a thoughtful security guard took this responsibility of saving all the plants in the building as he was also a florist.
“An email goes round! It’s turns out that one of our security guards is a florist, and – the security team has moved EVERY SINGLE PLANT from all 12 FLOORS of our office building into the cafeteria. It’s been turned into a temporary greenhouse. Cacti and succulents and spider plants and terrariums and potted ferns,” she wrote.
The cafeteria was the perfect place for those plants as it received enough sunlight through the windows due to its face towards the east. The incredible efforts did not end there!
Every plant had been given a label using the post-it notes. They have mentioned the name and the location of the desk from where the plant was picked. This would ensure that every employee can take them back as soon as they come back to the office.
“Each plant has been INDIVIDUALLY LABELLED by hand with post-it notes with name and desk location so the plants can go home after lockdown ends,” Waffles shared.
She uploaded various pictures of the plants in the mini greenhouse along with her post. The employees have received a private Google doc. The security team uploads the pictures of all the plants there. So, everyone can track the growth of their beloved green babies.
She added, “The plants are being taken care of tenderly. They get sun and water and are spending happy times with other plant friends.” She revealed that her cactus is growing. She has noticed it being 1 inch taller since her last meeting with it.
“If you zoom into the centre right photo you can see one of our security team happily waving,” Waffles wrote as she concluded her post.
She received more than 50,000 notes on her post on Tumblr and it went viral.
Such wonderful news brightens up our quarantine days. It feels great to know that there are so many kind people out there who are performing good deeds selflessly!
